Speed Reading

by bassman 6 October 2010

How fast do you read? Being a notoriously slow reader myself I found this topic very interesting.  So I did a little research and it turns out that I am actually slightly above average, which I am still finding hard to believe.

First I took an online Speed Reading Test and figured out I read at a little more than 350 words per minute.  According to Ezine Articles250 words per minute is the average.  However, I find that I usually take much longer to read a book than others so I didn’t really understand how this could be true.  I did a little more research and found that there are a lot of factors that can affect how fast you actually read on a regular basis.   I believe my problem is distractions, I have a very busy schedule that typically keeps me thinking about multiple things all the time.  This can really hurt ones speed reading ambitions as it turns out.

Here are some tips on how to read faster - http://www.wikihow.com/Learn-Speed-Reading.  Right off the bat there are few I may try including the eye test.  I can’t remember the last time I had one.  I think I was 12, perhaps it is time.  Also, finding a place that is quiet and free of distraction should help me to enjoy my time reading more.  I look forward to trying these.  Let me know through Feedback if you have found anything that helps you.
